Not one of Reichs' best--lots of tiny subplots and red herrings. The initial focus of the book--the evidence of some kind of ritual which includes a skull and femur bones--gets lost quickly, and the plot pieces don't intersect very well.

I enjoy Ms Reich’s work very much, but this one didn’t grab me like her others have done.

I’m also saddened by the personal life arc; it’s the opposite of my choice, and didn’t feel very true to Dr. Brennan to me.

plot: After her breakup with Ryan, Tempe is working in North Carolina when she gets a call about bones found in a suspicious ritualistic setting. While trying to sort through fact and deceit, Ryan decides to try to get back into her life. Now it is up to Tempe to figure out the truth.
opinion: This book was great. I knew Ryan wouldn't last long with his baby mamma. Also this truly kept me on my toes. The amount of surprises and shocks made it hard to put this book down.

I enjoyed this book. Though I did see where other people were complaining about the beginning of the book where she is describing herself and areas around her a little too much. Once you got into the book a bit more it flowed much better and the story was very interesting. I really want to see where Tempe and Ryan are going after this.

Not really like the TV show (not that I've seen much of it) and a little heavy on the explanations. Which I mostly skipped.

Classic Tempe. A quick read & totally enjoyable.

Kathy Reichs' books have always held my interest. I was disappointed in Devil Bones. Some of the humor was there but the suspense was lacking. I have read the books in order of publication and will move forward with reading the next books. Hopefully, they will be written in the same manner as earlier titles.

This case was SO MUCH BETTER than the previous book. I can handle different religions any day.
I was so upset when Eddie was killed. I really liked his calm quiet presence. he was a nice foil to Skinny. And it was sad that the witch was killed when he was not the real bad guy. I understood why he was killed, but unfortunately the father killed the wrong man and it was too little too late to reconcile with his dead son. In her personal life Tempe reconnects with an old high school friend and one time hook up, then in the wake of Eddie's death falls off the wagon and the one time hook up turns into a new hook up. Andrew shows up for the funeral. She gets fired. He tells her that things didn't work out with him and Lily's mother and they are back to living separately. She doesn't know what she wants because she can't keep being his whenever it's convenient girl. New/Old friend tells her he can wait. Skinny gets a new partner. And the killer was a male hooker who the personal assistant to the local representative, who got killed by the hooker, used to pick up. So the representative, who was all fire and brimstone and morals is no more.
Everything about this book, from the case to the personal relationships was so much better. I hope the rest of the series continues in this manner!

Interesting book. I picked it up because I love the tv show Bones, but these characters are absolutely nothing alike....
