This book was captivating and heart wrenching. It really transported me into the school with the shooter. Parts of the book made me hold my breath and will myself to read a little quicker. Rosamund Lupton has really done her research and this shines through in the book. It was well thought out and highlights some horrific issue that have been main stream media for some time now; school shootings and white supremacy.
I loved the characters, they were well developed and by the end of the book had me feeling proud as if I knew them.
However I did rate this book a 3.5/5.
This is because the beginning of this book is slow and I had to push myself through (which I'm glad I did).
I also have some issues with how the book ended, whilst nearly everyone remained safe I felt almost too good to be true. Would the teachers have really allowed the children to go through the woods and leave the only place they thought was safe in the school? Would all of the students have decided to leave- is everyone that brave?
So yes while the middle of this book was amazing the start and end felt slightly flawed. that being said I really enjoyed reading the journey of Rafi and Basi as refugees, there struggles were heart-breaking and so accurately told.

This was such a good story. It was so tense and it really felt like it was happening in real time the way that each piece of information is revealed allowing the picture to be revealed. The twist and turns kept on coming right up to the end.
Even now my heart aches for Beth and I find myself wondering about her in the aftermath of the siege.

Not what I expected when I first picked it up but I really enjoyed it in the end up. I couldn’t put the 2nd half down!
