Went in blind and glad I did. absolutely loved this story.
3.5 stars. Man, it took FOREVER to get interesting, that's for sure. And then of course, the last 50-100 pages or so blazed by...now THIS is what I was reading this book for. Overall pretty good book. I think I felt the same about some of the books in her other two series, though I do think about them both as overall good series. It'll be interesting to see what info she releases about Athie's parentage, and where Bryce goes from here (i.e. growing into her newfound powers). I was hoping for that in this book, but it didn't really happen.

Not what I expected at all, in a good way. A unique, well built world, that still fit right into the maas universe. Hard not to love a good story and hero.

It took me a bit to switch my brain to an urban fantasy mode. This book was entertaining and had moments of humor along with sadness. I was particularly moved by Bryce's struggle with grief and her relationship with Ruhn. Bryce became my queen when she saved Syrinx when she could have been running from Micah. The ending was intense so I need to take a little break before I listen to book two.
