I'm a fan of Camilla Lackberg's crime stories and so far, I think The Hidden Child is the best of this series. Tore through this one and couldn't put it down! Already have the next one on hold at the library.......

This book was just OK for me. I received it as a Goodreads giveaway and I didn't realize it was one in a series. It did read fine as a standalone book. The author did a good job introducing the characters, but there were a lot of characters and it was hard to keep them straight. The book held my attention and the main story was interesting. It is a mystery about a couple of current murders that tied into a story that went back to WWII. There were problems with the book. I found it annoying that the police were slow and inept. There were entire chapters devoted to the minutiae of peripheral characters lives. Maybe if I'd read the entire series I would understand the devotion to these characters, however, at over 500 pages I feel that this book could have been edited to under 400 pages and the main story would have been stronger.

Camilla Lackberg's Hidden Child is the 5th book of this series of mysteries. I have enjoyed all of her books in this series and have enjoyed the character development of all the major and minor characters. While reading this book, I felt like I was catching up with old friends, learning what was going on each others lives. It is a enjoyable book. I would recommend reading these books in order of the series.

Not the greatest of mysteries - the end is fairly clear at around 1/3rd of the way in. The beginning was a bit of a drag, the middle keeps you interested and the end is a little lame.It is fairly well-written though. The language might not be probing and thoughtful, but it does take common situations and recreate them lucidly. That is a win - once in a while you want to sit down with a book that tries to describe real people affected by major events and not just adventurers who are millionaires and also have ancestors who fought in every major war. Maybe read it if you have nothing on your shelf and crave something newer.

Love these books! So wonderfully written... Somewhat predictable but there's always a twist or two to keep you guessing. Big fan of Camilla Lackberg--can't wait for more of her work to be translated into English! :)

3.5. The title is a bit of a spoiler, but I don't think the mystery is supposed to be that hard to figure out; it is the motive behind the situation that is hidden until the end. Most of the characters were developed well, but there were a bit too many for me to keep up with. I'm not sure I buy into the central crime or the murderer, but it was an enjoyable read. Ironically it's my 4th book set in Sweden this year. Didn't realize that was the setting when I selected the book, it my sister in law is from Sweden and I've been lucky enough to visit there once so I enjoyed the literary revisit.

First 250 pages were slow. The last 200 were great.
