Super weird and super cool! The Smon Smon lives on planet Gon Gon. It has to get more ron rons (from the illustrations, you infer that this is a fruit). The nonsense vocabulary builds throughout the book, using both words and pictures as a reference, until you find that you may have understood a story that was largely not in English. The surreal paintings only add to the effect.

The Smon Smon are endearing little Oz-like creatures with accordion necks and bird feet. They pick berries all day and go about their business accepting help as they need it and offering what they can in payment.

It makes for an awkward read aloud because of the rhyming code words for everything. But the illustrations are fabulous.

The illustrations are beautiful and strange. The text is terrible.

Love it (thanks Mary B. via Sabira). Definitely a picture book for adults, but I think kids would like the nonsense words too. Sweet and humorous. Read alike for "Du Iz Tak" by Carson Ellis.

A very weird planetary story; more like a rhyme. Kinda scarry, actually. But the drawing is great.

This book has the best literacy skills. There's so much unpack and it seems very silly but it really is a great literacy tool!

Took a lot of brain power for me to read with the nonsense words, but they made a cool story and the illustrations are so unique.

Smon Smon is a remarkably novel story with a fun inner rhythm and a beautiful graphic design about a Smon Smon on the planet Gon Gon and its small adventures on the planet.
