I was really disappointed in this one.

Midnight Ruin promised groveling and degradation and all the wonderful kinks that come along with it and instead it just felt very lack luster.

Is the story running out of steam? I don't know. I just felt like all the books have had really important connections to the overall narrative arc, and each character set also had their own shit to work through.

This time around, it felt very sex forward, plot in the background. Things felt convenient and too easy and Charon felt so out of character compared to the person we meet in Neon Gods.

Just hoping it's a slump and the next book is better.

I enjoyed Midnight Ruin so much more than Cruel Seduction and Radiant Sin, but not as much as the first three books in the series. I want this series to get back to my OG loves, and I find that with this book in particular, it's working its way back. The spice was there, it's throuple that follows Charon, Eurydice and the man responsible for her heartbreak Orpheus as they navigate the political chaos that is Olympus. I loved the character development of Orpheus,  how Eurydice explores her spicy desires, and how caring and protective Charon is. This book made me happy in making the decision to stick with the series.

I identify with Orpheus. That’s it. That’s the review.

At this point the plot is paper thin, character development is shallow, and relationships are rushed and unconvincing. Whatever happened to buildup and tension? I really had to push to get through this.

When they say walk em like a dog, Eurydice really fücking meant it and I love that for her.

Katee Robert has a way of writing poly relationships where I just can’t get enough of these books. The dynamic and connections between Eurydice, Charon, and Orpheus is complicated but also very loving. Where one person lacks, one of the others pick up the slack, there’s a balance between them.

I’m so glad we got to see more of Hades in this book, and got to understand the brother/sister dynamic between him and Eurydice. I’m glad someone finally sees her potential and gave her a chance.

Oh Katee. I’m on this wild ass ride with you that is loosely Greek mythology but mostly sex and kink. I’m fascinated. I can’t look away. But I don’t know if that means I’d recommend it. But I’m going to keep going on this ride to see how it  ends at this point.
