Wow I loved every second of this book! I loved the 70s vibe and this story was complete 🔥 I had to order the hardcover and I just need this on my shelf!
Going into this read I did not expect to come out of it with a new favorite book, but here I am! There's something about the lovable Cones, Jimmy, Sheba, and of course Mary Jane that made me want to melt into the pages. Blau writes Mary Jane's summer transformation from an innocent girl who only knew the stoic-ness of her uptight home to a woman with a newfound understanding of what it means to love, be loved, and feel freely so beautifully. And as someone who loves music, the musical elements interwoven into the story were so fun.
Definitely going to look into more of Blau's novels!

There is literally nothing about this book that appealed to me, but I accidentally opened it on an app and it used up a book credit, so I read it. Ultimately the very human writing won me over.

I loved this so much, definitely one of my top reads of the year. It was just such an amazing coming of age story, and I love how it’s all from Mary Jane’s pov so it almost feels like I’m reading a memoir. I just appreciated being able to see Mary Jane come to the conclusion that you don’t have to be exactly like your parents and maybe they don’t know what’s best for you all the time. I also felt proud to see Mary Jane become more confident in herself and be with people who really love her. I also loved the complexities of the characters, like they weren’t perfect but you love them even more for that.
