The author is extremely descriptive. You can envision everything perfectly even down to the smallest detail. Really good writing and character development.

This historical coming of age novel set in 1970s America is absolutely phenomenal!

The author takes wonderfully realistic characters and their relatable problems, both everyday and wishful circumstances, and cohesive and fun writing to blend together a novel that positively sets itself apart from the norm. This book feels like a fun adventure and a hug rolled into one. It's the book you needed as a teen... and even now!

Our protagonist is 14 year-old Mary Jane, who is probably the most relatable teenager ever written. She goes through seeing the changing world outside of what her small world and her parents have allowed her, as well as having super realistic unrealistic anxieties that come with entering adulthood (Poor, sweet 14 year-old Mary Jane, who has never even kissed a boy, thought she was a sex addict. Poor, sweet 13 year-old me, who had never even kissed a boy, always thought she was pregnant!).

I love, love, LOVE this book! A new favorite for me, I can't wait to eventually own and reread this. I cannot recommend it enough!

If you can, I highly suggest listening to the audiobook version. The narrator, Caitlin Kinnunen, was phenomenal! Whether it be a 5 year-old, a 14 year-old, a West Virginian rockstar, or an uptight, super conservative mother, she nails it! It felt as if a full cast was narrating! I would listen to a book just to hear her narrate! So much life!

God bless President Ford, his wife, and his family. Amen.
