What a fun read! Something about this book makes me think Daisy Jones and the Six meets Almost Famous. Highly recommend.

I truly had so many thoughts on this book. For the first half, I truly loved it. I loved the characters and the story, and I really felt some nostalgia in the way that her summer is written. However, I really didn’t enjoy the way her mother was perceived as a villain, although you could see the many layers of depth to her. I found some strange issues with Sheba and Jimmy. Why were they so attracted to a young girl? I truly believed this was going to turn into a kidnapping of a child. And the end? One chapter her mom is furious with her and think she in Satan reincarnated. The next?? She’s sitting enjoying a meal with the whole family! Still fun, and enjoyed my time, but this book definitely felt so rushed at the end

Mary Jane has always been the perfect daughter, but the summer she spends babysitting for the Cone family shows her the beauty in imperfections. This coming-of-age felt like a warm summer day ripe with possibility and hope for the future. Mary Jane’s voice feels authentic and relatable (her fixation on sex addiction without understanding what it means is so perfectly preteen), and although she is technically an only child I think this book would really speak to eldest daughters.
