I literally inhaled this entire book! It is now one of my most fav reads of 2021...this also had a lot of funny moments which I enjoyed since I was in a reading slump and this book helped me get out of it.✨ Can't wait to read the next book in this series! 🖤

Louise le Blanc and Reid Diggory, witch and witch hunter, are two people meant to be on opposite sides of a conflict that has been occurring for centuries. And yet, due to a series of strange and extenuating circumstances, they find themselves bound in holy matrimony. Now Louise has to hide what she really is from her new husband while attempting to dodge enemies that wish to bring her a fate worse than death.

While it did have its flaws, this was a story that I enjoyed reading. The writing was fast-paced and engaging, and the setting felt like it really was taking place in a French town. Something about the writing gave it a certain charm that reminded me of France. When the action got going, that's when the writing really grabbed me. Also, I absolutely loved the beautiful imagery the author's description of magic brought about. Seeing how the magic worked from Louise's point-of-view was stunning, and I am looking forward to learning how the other type of magic works in the next book.

So what were those flaws that I mentioned? The first major one was the characters. I did have fun following the main characters through the story, but at times, all the characters came across as caricatures of themselves. For example, through most of the story, the Archbishop was extremely patriarchal and misogynistic. They were basically his two defining traits. The other antagonist introduced later was similar in that they were clearly "evil" because they were unapologetically evil and only that. The Archbishop does get a bit of depth to him, however, as he shows some weakness towards the end of the story.

Another thing that bothered me was that I began to question how the witch population works, and not in a good way. In the universe, magic is passed down to girls, and the boys are usually abandoned. Due to this restriction, I assume that the population is somewhere in the several thousands at the most. On top of that, they're being actively hunted by witch hunters. That is a constant decrease in the population, no matter how small. Then, in the final act of the book, it's revealed that many witches of the population "prefer the company of women." It makes me wonder how sustainable their population logistically is with all the active counters to it. I'm not against a book about lesbian witches at all. In fact, I'd be totally interested in it. I just find myself puzzled over how the population works.

All in all, it's a fun story with a charming setting and lots of teenage angst. Would definitely recommend for a fast-paced good time.

Another book that I had been putting off for a good while, but damn am I glad to have finally picked it up! The characters, plot, twists, magic, and tension - all fantastic!!

The world it’s set it in was a bit confusing to understand in the beginning because it’s setting is like France but not France if that makes sense ? But I did love the world building! And I really enjoyed how the magic was set out in this one too - everything comes at a cost, balance is always needed.

The characters! Lou is such a strong fmc, I absolutely loved her! She does everything she can to survive, and was clever and witty - just overall a great character to read. And Reid!! On the list of book boyfriends he goes. He was the sweetest - though stubborn at times with his beliefs, but damn was he great. The banter between these two was done to perfection, absolutely lived for it! And the side characters were also just as well done!

The story line and twists?? Holy crap!! I enjoyed every step of this ride - the twists and turns at the end were done so well. A couple I sort of guess but there was a whole ton of ones that had me gobsmacked!! Absolutely fantastic.

I cannot wait to see what the rest of the trilogy holds!!

🖤 enemies to lovers
🐍 witch x witch hunter
🖤 one bed
🐍 magic
🖤 strong fmc

Miluju to! Postavy, námět, zápletku, začátek, konec i prostředek.

Jděte do toho. Nebudete litovat. Užijte si to. Zapomeňte na realitu a na klišé. Holubice a had za to vážně stojí.
