This is labeled as non-fiction, but has fantastical story elements.  I picked up this book because it was chosen as a book club pick for a queer book club that I haven't officially joined yet, but will be soon.  I found the essays to be really reflective of the reader in how we read books and how we interact with the stories and the storytellers.

Highly recommend, be prepared to feel intense emotions.

This was such a beautiful and touching collection of essays! I really appreciate Whitehead's poetic writing, and these were no exception.

i normally don’t read memoirs so this is very out of my comfort zone. there were some difficult parts for me to get through, but i enjoyed the read. there were many poetic moments where it made me pause and think about how i viewed certain aspects of life.

Read it for a book club and I think I wasn’t really in the headspace I should have been to read it at the time. There were some parts that were super rough for me and honestly probably did more harm than good, but there were also some very sweet and lovely parts. IDK. I finished feeling very confused in my emotions overall.

I'm such a fan of this author! Definitely on my auto-buy list. In this vibrant essay collection, Whitehead examines queerness through the lens of indigeneity and the dark impacts of colonialism. Each essay felt unique, fresh, and eye-opening. I always love hearing Two-Spirit perspectives and I highly recommend listening to this on audio so you can hear the authors' thoughts in their own voice.
