It just doesn’t fit my mood at the moment (I’m craving cosy, winter reads) but I plan on revisiting it soon :)
I really enjoyed this one. The plot, as always, is convoluted. SpecOps has pretty much been disbanded, especially, the higher numbers. So Friday has bought Acme Carpets and , while technically selling and installing carpets, is still running SpecOps LiteraTec and Spike's department. That is also a cover for Jurisfiction. She is supposed to have told Landen, but hasn't. She has 3 kids, maybe-- Friday (her son), Tuesday (his younger sister) and Jenny, who is extremely elusive.
The minotaur is still after her and she has to contend with Thursday1-4 and Thursday5 from the novels written about her. Both want to be Jurisfiction agents and neither is precisely suitable. Thursday1-4 is oversexed and violent, while Thursday5 is the other extreme, a nonviolent vegetarisn concerned with yoga and her chakras.
The Thursday1-4 has decided she wants a real life. Felix8 has been seen again also. Millon de Floss, her official stalker spotted him at her house and Spike picked him up. But he has disappeared again. Thursday is also involved in cheese smuggling. Friday is refusing to have anything to do with tge chronoguard. So she has her hands full, and then some, and there is plenty of chance for things to go badly wrong.

This may be more clever than good, but I still love the world so much.

Yet another brilliant installment of Thursday's adventures. Fforde continues to amaze with his ingenious twists- clearly he's made some good friends in the Bookworld!
It's been almost 2 years(!) since I read the last Thursday Next book so as I was reading, I had to catch myself up on pretty much everything. I had no trouble feeling at home in this world once again though and I still find these books hilariously inventive and original.
Thursday and her husband have settled down and now have 3 (2?) kids, the eldest of which is Friday, who must be convinced to join the Chronoguards, or Spec-Ops 12 if time-travel is to be saved. She's also still working for Jurisfiction and training new cadets, which happen to be Thursday5 and Thursday1-4, her fiction selves. This one includes appearances by the Bennet family from [b:Pride and Prejudice|1885|Pride and Prejudice|Jane Austen|https://d.gr-assets.com/books/1320399351s/1885.jpg|3060926] and an almost appearance by Harry Potter.

Time travel argh!!!! But finally finished the book for real this time. And as always Fforde’s creativity is amaze, if not too smart to follow at times.
My absolute favorite thing about this book is that the main character is old and aging. Thursday started out older than a goodly number of [whatever genre this stuff is] main characters do, but Jasper Fforde has decided to keep aging her up as the series goes along. It is awesome. That's not the only good decision. The choice of adversary is quite nice as well, and the little spoiler we get about the family provides a lot of entertaining on top of being a gut punch. It's one of the things Jasper does best.
Fifth in the series. Now eagerly awaiting the sixth... :D
