The story was decent but I was finding myself annoyed with the FMC. Then, at 49% or so, the MMC decides to announce he loves the FMC and it didn’t work for me. Why? I’m all for insta love/lust, but in this book it didn’t make sense. Also I have so many books in my TBR.

Confession time: I got this book because it was cheap, and I finished it because I'm stubborn. Which isn't to say that I didn't like certain parts of the story. I did, in fact! My problem is that there were so many more parts of the story that I didn't like as much or just flat-out annoyed me.
The main character was fun most of the time. I liked her attitude and how she struggled with her prejudices against vampires throughout most of the book. Two big things bugged me, though. The first was that she had to doll up and dress "slutty" (her words, not mine) in order to hunt down and kill vampires. The second was that everyone she came across, from a potential friend in college to her own family, was either psychotic or complete assholes. Why couldn't she meet more than one decent person who wasn't Bones?
The "intense hate turned to attraction/love" cliché is tired and predictable, and I would've really loved more character development. I'm not sure I really like how both of them act possessive and jealous of each other, either. I know it plays into fantasies but for me, it speaks more about the couple's insecurities.
Overall it wasn't a terrible book. Being a paranormal romance, I knew what I was getting into when I started reading. It's just too bad the romance isn't one I can get behind.

SPOILER AHOY
This book has made the biggest grammatical mistake of all time it kept misspelling the male protagonist's name. Bad editing team. It's Spike, not Bones who's Bones. Guess we'll never know. As a Buffy the vampire slayer fan this book satisfied me in a guilty pleasure kind of way.
But it did fall short that is why I deducted one star, I have no regrets. Why on earth would she choose the government and spill vampire secrets? She saw first hand how corrupt they are but noo she has no choice and can't think and has to protect everyone she loves blah blah. Like Bones uh I mean Spike okay I can see how someone can make that mistake earlier statement retracted. Back to the review. The government are connected to the vamps they legit said they want to rid the world of certains to make it a better place and this girl is like ooo the government can be trusted with trade secrets. HELL TO THE NO! I think she forgets sometimes that she is a vampire and it just puts her at a disadvantage when she reveals vampire secrets. Cuz everyone knows that the bad guys aren't just the vampires. I feel like authors get the protagonist to make bad decisions at the end so it leads to another book then they regret their decision and blah blah. I feel like I'm thinking too critically about something that's just a guilty pleasure.
Bones can legit handle anything he is highly connected and super resourceful I believe and trust in him more than Cat and it's told in her perspective what the hel-
In conclusion, I love Spike uhh...I mean Bones he is connected, sweet, loyal, truthful trustworthy...talented, brilliant, incredible, amazing, show stopping, spectacular, never the same, totally unique- Lady Gaga

Vampire huntress with a twist, she's half-vampire! Sexy boyfriend action. Somewhat unbelievable (hahaha I know) aspects, like she's practically a virgin and is bizarrely quaint and attached to her mother. Despite rationalizations this doesn't work, but I think it's just part of the necessary set up for the series. Willing to go on to the next book in said series. Because vampires.

Cute story! Took this book on a recommendation from one of my craftivism friends and it didn’t disappoint!
As always, love me a string heroine in a story that isn’t cheesy. 💪 👩🏻
