I thought the summary sounded interesting so I picked the audiobook. However, I found it to be boring, dark, and slow with an overflow of gross, predictable tropes. There were some plot twists that felt obvious and could have been something else.

Oh my! I can't believe I didn't pick this up sooner! Although in HS this dark of a book would not sit well. I was hooked by Paige's writing style and wish I could pick up book two this minute!

I wasn't sure about this book at first, but it definitely picked up along the way. I loved the twist on a famous story. It's definitely a dark retelling with a fair share of gore and mild torture, so beware. I'm so intrigued by where this series is headed and will for sure be moving on to the next installment soon. I do want to note that there is a bit of cussing and gore, so I don't plan on recommending this to just any YA reader.
