I'm really disappointed in this book.

Archie's a tool, Susan's a prop, Henry and the other secondary characters are extras, Gretchen is suddenly Superwoman, Leo is useless, and the plot was contrived and not at all very enthralling. I don't like the characters any longer, except for maybe Susan. My patience has run out for Archie. And Gretchen needs to be gone from the series, once and for all, because the dynamic between her and Archie is no longer captivating but annoying, way too complex, and no longer believable.

I really hope this series is closed out gracefully and Archie somehow redeems himself because I've no more sympathy for him.

Here's the thing about the Heartsick series....the first book was brutal. I would get a feeling of dread when it was time to go back into the basement with Archie and Gretchen. Then somewhere around "Evil at Heart", my allegiance shifted. Yeah I know Gretchen is a freakin SERIAL KILLER OF THE HIGHEST ORDER....but She is THE serial killer and woe all else who cross her path. After that last scene in "Evil", with the exception of her absence in "The Night Season", I feel myself doing a mental fist pump when Gretchen shows up. She may not do things the easy way...and someone usually ends up in pieces....but I'm always smiling when she makes her final exit.

Maybe IIIIIII need the psychologist.....

High praise for "Let Me Go". I'm adoring how old cases keep coming back up on new light. I love Susan's skunk streak and by gosh I'm POSITIVE I'd love Bliss's caramel apples. Can't wait for the next one!

I did enjoy this book but I am tired of Archie and Gretchen. I wish she'd get killed off and he can pursue some more other interesting aspects of his job!!

I did like this book. and I love this series. It just didn't seem to be as convincing as the other books so far. And Gretchen is starting to feel larger than life, which makes the plot less believable. Just as I felt the characters were actually growing further, the book ended. I adore Chelsea Cain and this series, I'm really sad there aren't any new installments as of today. I hope she picks Gretchen and Archie up again soon.

another goodie in the series! although the archie/gretchen relationship is growing weary, i still love the story and cain's writing, especially her ability to describe murder scenes in such uncomfortably gross and seemingly accurate terms. unless i'm mistaken, this book had much more sexual graphic scenes than i remember, which didn't bother me, but might turn off some readers.

Listened for fun (Audible)
Overall Rating: 4.00
Story Rating: 3.50
Character Rating: 4.50

Audio Rating: 4.50 (not part of the overall rating)

First Thought when Finished: Let Me Go was strong in character development/growth but the story wasn't my favorite in the series.

Note: If I was rating this book against the others in the series it would have been 3. Let Me go when compared against others in the genre ranks a 4. Choosing how to rank on goodreads, I tend to stick with my higher inclination but wanted to note that it wasn't the strongest in the series.

Story Thoughts: Parts of Let Me Go were fantastic. Oddly enough, it was the parts that involved the case that Archie was working on. However, the parts with Gretchen just did not feel like their normal magic to me. Parts were repetitious and other parts I just wanted more from. That being said, this was a very good read! I love Chelsea's writing and I highly recommend her!

Character Thoughts: Archie is a fascinating character to me. His experiences with Gretchen have made him more complicated, damaged, and very good at his job. I am though, hopeful for him! I want him to let in happiness. This one didn't get him there but I think I see a spark. I really liked the character development of Susan in Let Me Go. She is really getting to shine and come into her own. I believe she is almost as fascinating as Gretchen. Gretchen is still Gretchen! What I love about her is that she knows herself so well and acts accordingly!

Audio Thoughts:
Narrated By Christina Delaine / Length: 13 hrs and 3 mins

Christina has done a freaking fantastic job since taking over the series. I really think she gets the characters spot on. She changes her emotions to match who she is narrating and you can tell just from that! Overall a fantastic performance.

Final Thoughts: Again on the countdown to the next installment.
