Not sure how I feel about the premise. Feels icky at some points and quite unrealistic for most of it. Writing was fine.

Would absolutely never recommend to survivors of sexual assault.

I had to stop reading because I had a strong feeling this was about to get preachy. I love to read books that are challenging - I don’t have to agree with what happens in the text or even the authors tone. good art makes you think, and I love that!

but I don’t know… the story being that
a woman falls in love with her rapist’s brother (IDENTICAL TWIN BROTHER)
and it’s also about forgiveness? i can’t. I understand forgiveness is vital to many people, even when they’re the victim of horrific acts like that. personally, I’m not one to forgive all the time (because if that EVER happens to me, I sure as hell wouldn’t forgive them), but I understand needing that weight being taken off your shoulders. it’s also an accurate phenomenon through a christian lens as well. but to use a
romance with her rapist’s identical twin brother
as a vehicle for telling a story about forgiveness just seems so fucked up. beyond fucked up. it’s not so much the content as it is the tone. I simply cannot entertain this any longer

Well-crafted story about a woman returning to her hometown after a number of years, having left shortly after a sexual assault as a teen. (While the assault is not detailed in the book, the story heavily centers around its after-effects and the choices various characters have made.) Lots of complex, dynamic characters and no easy/perfect options. There are a handful of minor narrative/geographic/timeline inconsistencies that I found slightly distracting (but not enough to impede the story overall), or it'd be 5 stars.
