A really wholesome take on the fantasy X fairytale genre.

Great characters, flat world, has potential

This title just never clicked with me. I'm not the biggest fan of the fairytale-esque vibe, which could have been a big contributor, but I just felt the world didn't do anything to draw me in. Characters were great, I might even read a sequel solely because of them.

Great characters and humor.

World building relied heavily on pre-established esthetic.

Recommended if fairytales are your vibe.

'The usual way. Couldn't put it in the rooster. That's how you get basilisks.’”

Not groundbreaking but definitely different and enjoyable.

I really didn't enjoy A Court of Thorns and Roses which put me off reading these kinds of fantasy books (this might be hard to articulate but I definitely think it's a sub genre) for a while. This book was a nice surprise though.

The world and characters felt real and had depth. The fantasy elements did draw on familiar things a lot (god mothers and spells) but it was also pretty inventive (I especially liked the burnished(?) place. I may have misremembered that).

And most importantly, it didn't feel like someone role playing their own fantasy story and had an actual plot that made sense. Will be keeping Kingfisher in mind for future reads
