Powerful and earnest - this one came like a shock. I was really swept away by Soldier Sailor as a reader and as a mother to young children. I really hope this makes the Women’s Prize shortlist. Her snow globe analogy is one of the most erudite things I’ve ever read about the postpartum mind. She captured a deep feeling I could never put to words, yet it also felt like a hug - even though at times it feels like you’re the only one awake nursing your baby at 3 AM, someone else is doing the same and has done so before you. This book isn’t easy and of course not universally relatable, but it unabashedly captures the rawness of a specific time in many mother’s lives that I think readers will be touched by.
