Veronica.. sisโฆ you really should have seen that coming. You donโt casually hit someone with a car and then donโt stab them. Nicole or Alice has that dog in herโฆ.

This overall was a fast paced , exciting listen. I do actually wish it was a bit longer, and we got more on the ending. I didnโt see the ending coming. Would recommend.
๐๐๐๐๐:
Dangerously addictive, The Secrets of Us is a pulse-pounding exploration of a disturbed psyche and the bond between two sisters desperate to escape a troubled past.
Foster sisters Krystal and Nichole have always been there for each other, so when Nichole is committed to a psychiatric hospital after trying to kill her husband, Krystal drops everything to defend her.
Scarred by a hard upbringing, Nichole and Krystal managed to construct comfortable lives for themselves. Krystal became a respected lawyer, and Nichole was happily married to an architect - until Nichole starts raving that her husband isnโt her husband, believing that heโs an imposter.
Driven by fierce loyalty, Krystal starts asking questions, but sheโs not sure she can bear the answers. Her investigation leads to the sistersโ dark shared past...to a horrible tragedy and a well-guarded lie that cemented their sisterly bond.
But that lie canโt kill the truth - the battered, gasping, clawing truth thatโs coming for them both. Now Krystal and Nichole must both fight for the lives theyโve built before theyโre consumed by the one they left behind.

From the outset, Berry plunges readers into the tumultuous lives of foster sisters Krystal and Nichole. The story kicks off with Nichole's shocking act and subsequent commitment to a psychiatric hospital, leaving Krystal to confront the horrifying possibility that her sister's claims about her husband may hold some truth. As Krystal delves deeper into Nichole's allegations, she uncovers a web of deception and buried secrets from their shared pastโa past scarred by tragedy and a tightly held lie that binds them together.
Berry's portrayal of the sisters is incredibly nuanced and touching. Krystal's unwavering loyalty and determination to unearth the truth despite the personal cost resonated deeply with me. Nichole's descent into paranoia and her battle with her own mind created a palpable sense of unease and suspense that kept me on edge throughout the novel.
The suspense in "The Secret of Us" is expertly crafted, with each revelation and twist ratcheting up the tension. Berry skillfully peels back layers of the sisters' past, gradually exposing the dark undercurrents that have shaped their lives and their relationship. The exploration of mental health issues and the impact of childhood trauma adds depth and realism to the narrative, making the characters' struggles all the more haunting and poignant.
What impressed me most about this book is Berry's ability to blend psychological suspense with a profound exploration of familial bonds and the lengths one will go to protect loved ones. The emotional turmoil and moral dilemmas faced by Krystal and Nichole kept me riveted, rooting for them even as their world unraveled around them.

Kept me on the edge of my seat, wondering what would happen next. But Iโm starting to learn that I hate the way this author writes her endings. Didnโt feel complete to me.
