A very disappointing read. I am a huge Goodkind fan but have been sincerely underwhelmed by his recent books. His writing is extremely repetitive and not captivating in the least. The story was weak in that the characters were dragged through a plot that wasn't in sync with previous events from the Sword of Truth series. Worst of all the strongest and most interesting characters came off as feeble minded, desperate and weak, as if all the development that had gone into them was suddenly irrelevant. If you enjoyed the Sword of Truth series I would strongly recommend not reading any of the Richard and Kahlan series.

Really extremely poor writing... tons of repetition that is so frustrating to slog through. If you took out the absurd amount of repeated information and dialogue, this book would be about 1/5th the length.

The plot was much better than The Omen Machine, but for the first time I couldn't get past Terry's prose to enjoy it. He repeats himself far too often, and writes a lot of things that don't need to be written. I think he could have easily cut off a hundred pages and made a better book, which says a lot about the quality considering it's already several hundred pages shorter than his average book.

Did not disappoint. I did take a break from reading this series as the first time I started the omen machine I found it hard to get into. After a break from the story line I found myself drawn back in and I breezed through both the omen machine and this book. I couldn’t put it down!! If you are struggling with the turn of the storyline I recommend a break, but don’t stop reading it!!

Loved the book, just a little to repetitive at times.
