Another excellent story form teh very prolific Mr Tchaikovsky. This one full of alien creatures and weird intelligence. There is a great fighting against The Man(date), some very satisfying pontificating about the nature of live and intelligence and self with teh mirror of an alien world that did things rather differently.
As always the characters are charming and real enough. The story engaging and the ending very satisfying.

The first half was a bit slow and dry, and a lot was really packed into the end. Generally speaking I enjoyed it, although maybe some of the parallels to current day politics are a tiny bit heavy handed.

I also am not 100% sure I loved the narrator's tone. A lot of foreshadowing and very conversational.

I have loved reading Adrian Tchaikovsky's books in the past, but unfortunately this was not one of them. The plot concept was really interesting, but poorly executed. The first person, past tense writing style was jarring and made it harder to connect with the characters. Pacing was a bit of a let down, at times I wanted it to slow down and provide more, and other times I wanted it to speed up and get to the point. A disappointing read, but hasn't turned me off my general love of the author's work.
