I thought this book was even more enjoyable than his first novel, The Kite Runner, because this was from the perspective of a female. Hosseini was inside the mind of the characters so well that I felt like I was there with them, experiencing everything that they did. This novel was so touching, it is going to stay with me for some time.

I’ve reread this book around 12 years after reading it as a teenager.
Even though I can now see that the writing isn’t as amazing as I remembered... this is still such a beautiful and heartbreaking story that I can appreciate even more now as an adult.

“one could not count the moons that shimmer on her roofs, or the thousand splendid suns that hide behind her walls.”

there are no words and no amount of stars that can encompass the beauty, the pain, and the sheer and raw emotion that is this piece of poignant and heartbreakingly honest art by khaled hosseini. about two brave, wondrous women and the interweaving hopes and tragedies of their lives set in afghanistan at both it’s most turbulent and it’s most beautiful.
