I thought this would be a great book and I'm sure for some it's super helpful and amazing. I just don't think for my case it will be. I reread the sections on the different plans many times and it still isn't super clear to me. I think the general idea is that we should be helping to solve our kids problems instead of punishing them. That makes sense, but the explanation of the plan is just not clear. Having the story of Jennifer throughout was helping though. I think it's a good book to at least look through it you've tried everything to help your kid thus far.

Wonderful book. I cannot recommend this book enough. I hate books that do not think of children as people with their own feelings and thoughts. This book is very respectful to children while understanding the frustrations of the parents as well. There is even a section for educators which, as a future teacher, I found very interesting.

As a parent of two "explosive" children I found this book to be useful and reassuring. The collaborative approach it recommends is harder with non-verbal children but can just about be adapted to work. Whether you agree with the ideas in this book will depend on your personal philosophy around bringing up children, if you are more traditional it may be a struggle but it fits well if you're more child focused.

Would work better for an older child who can talk/reason. Not many solutions for the 3 and younger crowd. But reasonable, non-punitive approach.

Good a analysis of the “lagging skills” and “unsolved problems” (ie, can never find socks, feels pressure at school) that trigger meltdowns. And a collaborative problem solving approach to empathetically listen to the child’s POV, share your own concerns/boundaries, and invite them to generate some solutions.

A necessary book, especially for parents of children who seem to blow up over (seemingly) nothing, but other parents, teachers, and caregivers can benefit as well from the principles of looking for the underlying problem that's setting a kid off at particular times, and working with them to find a solution.
