Heartbreaking story.
It's also the first book I've read that's like it, and it's quite good.

Oooof what a phenomenal book. Loved the use of language and the way the book deals with the tragedies of love and trauma and how that shapes our lives. The inner life of the 'host' is extremely fascinating for anyone interested in the human psyche. The cultural elements felt right and very much an integral part of the story. It's an epic tragedy in the vein of classic epic tragedies and I'm so so glad I picked up this book. 5 stars without a doubt.

This novel tells an incredibly complex and difficult story, addressing issues such as class, exploitation of migrants, racism, violence against women and how corrupt the "justice" system is. Big fan of how the story is narrated. I found the book a little dense so it took me quite a while to read. I also had a bit of a hard time grappling with the ending, even though it is foreshadowed something bad will happen from the very beginning.
