These are such good books! They really help you understand what Joseph Smith has done for the church. I think people should read this if they want a good uplifting book to help strengthen their testimony.

i would’ve rated it 3 stars, but Nathan is just to amazing. no offence to Joseph and everybody else that’s real, but the only interesting aspect of this is the fake people. the “fiction” part of this historically fictional book.

y’all need to read this just for Nathan. and how he becomes a total badace that believes in being treated with kindness and respect.

also, Josh SUCKS. i ABSOLUTELY hate him

 My Review:

Gerald Lund is PURE MAGIC in this series and it was such a delight to be able to do a reread of this marvelous book and then watch the film adaptation ---which is brilliant and I HIGHLY RECOMMEND.

Pillar of Light is a story that focuses on the beginnings of when the Steed family meets Joseph Smith Jr and also when we see the early beginnings of the restoration of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. If you want to know the history of this faith, I highly recommend this series and you will get some beautiful family connections and a wonderful romances that build along the way that involve the Steed family.

I absolutely adored the love triangle in this one and seeing the true romance between Nathan and Lydia form. Out of all the couples we see in this series, they are definitely a favorite! They have such a pure love. And Gerald Lund captures it so beautifully!

Was reading and recording it for my bf in his mission but he can’t listen anymore and I’m not that invested in it.

A great first book for the series. Meet the Steeds, an 1830's farming family in Upstate New York. Through in Joseph Smith and two brothers one who believes and one who doesn't. An excellent book that adds enough fiction to church history to really make it interesting. I loved learning more about church history through the eyes of a fictional family. It also made me wonder, what would I have believed had I heard the first vision account directly from Joseph Smith's mouth?

The beginning was SO dry I left it at page eight for weeks. I ended up finding the audiobook, and it helped me get through the dense descriptions in the beginning.

I loved this book! Recently the youth in my ward went to Kirkland and Palmyra and we learned of the start of the church and so much more! While I was deeply affected by the spirit I felt while there, I'm ashamed that I didn't act like it had changed me from that point on. And being an avid reader, I've always connected more to book characters than just the retelling of a story, so this book helped further deepen my understanding of what the early saints went through.

Even now there is still so much controversy and confusion on the topic of Joseph Smith and the Church. Because of this I'll just quickly write my own testimony and belief here, if you wish to read it than please, do so. (Both my testimony and the book)

I KNOW Joseph Smith was a prophet- called of GOD, and that by the power of GOD he was able to translate the Book of Mormon. (Fun fact- 80% of the Book of Mormon was written around the same time as the Old and New testaments) I KNOW with an utmost surety that because of the real, historical events -included within this book- are true and that without them the Church would not be here today. Because of the Church and it's gospel, the joy and blessings it brings me are innumerable! Without it, I know that I would not be where I am today, and I am soooo grateful that I can say these things, because whether or not others believe, deep within my heart I know I do.
And I say these things, in the name of Jesus Christ.
Amen.

I'm pretty late to the party as I'm just reading this book for the first time. I really enjoyed it. I've always loved early LDS church history and this was a great more personal look as to how people would have thought and reacted during the early years in Palmyra. It was light, fun reading.
