What an uplifting, delightful story, this one is emotional, it’ll have you laughing and crying, but the overall theme for me was hope, self forgiveness and love, you will be smiling at the end. I a, so glad I read this and I thoroughly recommend this, it’s such a positive read.

3.5/5 - Pretty good and fast read. Though the cover may lead you to think its a light romantic 'chick lit', there are actually some very serious themes discussed in the book. I very much enjoyed this aspect though understand if some readers are put off by this if they picked it up based on the cover.
This would be a 4 but I think it might need just one more round of editing - in the audiobook there were some quite obvious incorrect names and awkward phrasings. I also wish we saw a little bit more at the end of what the village turned out to be but it definitely made me want to move into a pink cottage though!

What a beautiful story set in a beautiful part of the country. I grew up near where the story is set and it was lovely, I felt like I was part of the story.
I've never read anything from Kate before and I flew through this, it was so addictive. I kept wanting to know what happened.
A book filled with love, heartache, friendship and magic. An absolute must read.

I don't know how to review this book, I think I only finished it in the hopes there was a happy ending rather than leaving in the midst of tales of abuse.
The blurb and the happy sunny cover were misleading - parts of the book were very dark. Read the trigger warnings.
The actual lighthearted part is Tassie and her magic. I'd have been very happy with a light hearted book about her life. Or a lighthearted book about a falling down cottage and a romance with the contractor, with a brief communication issue causing trouble in paradise. Not abuse and murder. The book was well written but badly described by publishers with no hint of harder themes at all. I honestly feel mislead.

3.7 but i think it can be bumped up to a 4 based on the sheer surprise factor that i actually enjoyed it
this is the sort of book i never thought i'd like: general romcom-ish adult fiction. but it was cute and all the characters were really well written and fleshed out (unlikeable at times, but that's just human nature), just a nice, easy, cosy read.
although tassie is perfect and i will fight anyone who disagrees
also enjoyed listening to the different english/irish accents but it made the sex scene awkward as hell

This book was so incredibly magical, and I didn’t want the story to come to an end, because it was just so lovely. This is the perfect antidote to the world outside right now, and the characters all add their own little magical touches which made me love them even more. From the outset Clara is just so innately good, and she drops everything to help anyone who needs her help, which is a quality that is in short supply in reality right now, and is a quality that most of us probably aspire to.
The absolute star of the show in this story is Tassie McIver, who brings a lot of the magic to the story, and is a little old lady that I simply adored. I really think everyone needs a Tassie in their lives! As wonderfully feel-good as this book is, it has a darker side to it too, dealing with abusive control in a sensitive way, and addressing carefully the aftermath to the abuse, with recovery aided by true friendships, and community spirit as the friends all rallied round.
The value of community is a theme that runs through this story, and I found it so heartwarming that I wanted to move immediately to live in a pretty thatched cottage in a village where everyone comes together to help one another, together with a magical bakery/cafe filled with delicious baked goods.
Kate Forster was a new author to me, but I will definitely be reading more of her work. ‘Starting Over at Acorn Cottage’ was an absolute joy to read.

Wasn’t expecting to read about physical and emotional abuse in what is supposed to be a ‘feel good’ book.
Really liked the first couple of chapters and how they were written.
