I loved this! Literally read it in 1.5 hours. It was super cute and loved the characters, even though it was short the story didn’t seem too rushed

2 stars because this could have been such an enjoyable slow burn but instead I was rushed through the entire story with an unsatisfactory ending... perhaps I'm looking for a different book from this book, oh well.

Late last year, I finally read my first Ali Hazelwood book, the novella Cruel Winter with You. I loved that story and vowed to get with the program and read more from her. At this point, I’ve read one of her full-length books and this novella. I’ve heard so much about her full-length stories, but I think people are sleeping on her novellas. Once they grab you, they don’t let go.

I’m not a huge enemies-to-lovers fan…too much animosity gets me frustrated with the characters. This story had just the right amount of enmity before a truce, and then a friendship is formed. Plus, I never felt one character was being meaner than the other in the ways they interacted.

Mara and Liam have great chemistry. There is definitely some backstory/family stuff that is skimmed over due to the length of the story, but I didn’t miss it, and it wasn’t detrimental to my understanding of the characters. To me, that’s what makes a good short story. It was full of feelings, so I didn’t miss the particulars.

Tandem read the physical with the audio.

Trying to read all of Ali Hazelwood’s backlist in publication order, so this was my second of her (after the Love Hypothesis which I LOVED!)

I did love the couple - loved how they turned from not liking each other, being forced in close proximity by living under the same roof.

I did NOT like the “timing” of the book. Starting with the moment they “get together” but then flash back to the beginning. I wish they just started at the beginning.

I also did NOT like how the couple actually “got” together… it just happened?! And then it just ended?? I understand that it’s a novella but wanted to see them actually BE together!

I have heard from many people that the novellas aren’t that great, and sadly after reading the first one, I agree. But I’m gonna keep reading them!

My current Ali hazelwood ranking, from fave to least:
1. The Love Hypothesis (5 stars)
2. Below Zero (4 stars)
3. Stuck with You (3 stars)
4. Under One Roof (2 stars)
