Didn't love this as much as the first two but it was still so much fun! The narrator changed from Stephen Fry to Hugh Bonneville which might have affected my rating.

Read aloud to my 10 year old son. Paddington is so well written it is easy to read aloud and to enjoy it. As always everything is more interesting and somehow ends up better when Paddington is around.

I read this book for the 1960s part of the Reading Passport Challenge that libraries are presenting this year.

Sweet little Paddington, who couldn't love that bear? this is my second Paddington book, and I think I enjoyed this one more than Paddington Abroad. This was so funny in places, and nice and vintage.
favourite quotes: "A family heirloom?" repeated the lock keeper, "I've never heard of a hat being a family heirloom before." "mine is," said Paddington firmly."
"it's a very rare sort of hat and it's got a marmalade sandwich inside. I put it there in case of emergencies."
"Paddington wasn't the sort of bear who allowed himself to be beaten by trifles."

Clearly my mother doesn't really love me, otherwise I wouldn't have just discovered this book.

There's not much character development throughout this series, and the books are starting to run together for me. I find it strange that someone would leave a bear in charge of a household while the owners of the home were on bed rest. And one of the later illustrations in the book of Paddington eating is actually kind of scary. I can't quite picture how a stranger who's been subject to one of Paddington's "stares" would end up finding the fellow endearing.

But my son still loves the books, so I'll keep reading them to him.
