Five stars, don't care.
I was about 30 pages into this novel before I realised I'd read it before. I don't remember enjoying it this much the first time around, and I think there's an easy explanation for that.
Macomber's Christmas novels, particularly the stand-alone ones, don't have a lot of substance. And I mean this in the nicest way possible. I'm not looking for a head-scratching read around Christmas. I'm looking for a super easy read with very minimal plot and super comfy characters. And that's what Alaskan Holiday is.
A lot of people seem not to like this book because, unlike most romances that start with the H and h meeting, Alaskan Holiday starts with a proposal. I have absolutely no problem with this. Honestly, I find this extremely refreshing. I hate the common romance novel mentality that chemistry ends with commitment (apparently after a woman gives in to a guy, the romance becomes as sexually-charged as a warm beer). But to each their own, I guess.
I think this Christmas season, nostalgia is more important than ever. I'm probably going to be rereading all my favourite Macomber Christmas novels. Let's lay on the holiday spirit with some overdramatised romances and cute dogs...
'Tis the season.

This entire book (so far) was telling me the story instead of showing me. No depth.
The narrators were not my favorite, but the plot is really lacking. I dislike the characters and truly just didn’t care what happened next
