From the end, Carden is useless, a puppet on strings, a marionette, all he knows is getting drunk and kissing girls, readers who like him, hello? what did he ever do aside from playing around? Jude, Jude is the best strong female character, the rating is for her... and for Madoc as a villain,

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ i liked this book way better the second time around, Holly Black put in so many hidden clues and details and wow

OG RATING:
Rating it ⭐️⭐️⭐️ as this book only got interesting after 275 pages. Nonetheless, I think it’s a great start to a series and I am super excited to start 2022 with the second book in this series!

a fantasy classic tbh.

loved that the romance was more of a sub plot and you could really tell how much effort had gone into the depth of the characters and world building!

3.5/5
I wish we could do rating out of 10. I was say this is a solid 7 out of 10. Not bad. Not amazing.

I just couldn't take [b:A Court of Frost and Starlight|50659471|A Court of Frost and Starlight (A Court of Thorns and Roses, #3.1)|Sarah J. Maas|https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1585622963l/50659471._SX50_.jpg|54810660] anymore. Only 16% in and I needed a break. I had seen The Cruel Prince title in the same circles with ACOTAR so I decided to give it a read.

Worldbuilding:
The worldbuilding in this book is sadly very lacking. There is the modern human world and Elfhame. There is a king. He rules over some Courts but not all the Courts. We don't get a lot of detail on any of the Courts really. Elfhame feels very small. I am pretty sure you can travel from one side to the other in a matter of hours. Where do all these other Courts exist? Elfhame? Are there other fairy realms they reside? Is Elfhame the whole of the fairy world? Or is it just a small part of it?

Characters:
Jude I like her. She knows she's weak compared to those around her but she refuses to show it. She is flawed and relatable. She has dynamic and complex relationships with those around her. Overall a well-written protagonist.
Taryn I hate her. Someone who truly acts her age.
Cardan The book needs more of him.

“Most of all, I hate you because I think of you. Often. It’s disgusting, and I can’t stop.”

I do so love the enemies-to-lovers troupe.

So why only 3 starts? The book just wasn't what I wanted it to be. I think this book has shown me that Young Adult novels just might not be my thing anymore. I wanted more. It's a fine book for what it is. I probably would have enjoyed it more had a read it when I was younger. It's a quick and easy read. I don't feel as though time was wasted reading this book. But I am glad I was able to borrow to my Kindle from the library instead of buying it. Not a book I plan to re-read but a series I plan to continue.

This only gets 4.5 ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ cause i heard the next books only get better but HOLY SHIT DID I ALMOST THROW UP OF ANXIETY WITH THIS DAMN BOOK!!
