Lucy Foley sure does have a thing for dysfunctional families and I don’t hate that.

While sometimes difficult to follow, the multiple POV, multiple timeline flow of this story really kept me on my toes as a reader. You almost need to construct an FBI style suspect board to keep it all straight.

Despite having dozens of characters, each was brought to life on the page, no matter how small the role. The attention to detail offered vivid descriptions of their mannerisms, scents, and accents that helped develop each personality as well as further the plot.

Interestingly, I had it solved early on, but I dismissed my original theory because it seemed too predictable. I believe some will be very surprised with the twist, while fans of the genre will most likely find it slightly derivative.

The pacing did leave a lot to be desired. At times, it felt like entire chapters were irrelevant or repetitive. She probably could have cut 50 or so pages and still had enough time to develop the story thoroughly.

Still, I did really enjoy the characters and twists and would recommend this to fans of murder mysteries.

When I can find a book that keeps me guessing until the very end, I cherish it. This novel exceeded my expectations with its complexity and depth. I’m a tough critic of mystery novels, and I will be the first to admit that in this genre, it is hard to impress me.

I. Am. IMPRESSED.

Fun, well thought-out, great twists and turns, wonderful delving into different characters; did suffer from swapping POV’s too much at climactic/charged moments which imo messes with your tension, but did great at utilizing POV cuts and flash backs to provide cliffhangers and control what information we know when

I’d say 3.5 stars.
I don’t think this was Lucy‘s best book (my favorite is still Guest List), but I think it was very well written. She definitely knows how to captivate her audience and make them wanting more, because I certainly couldn’t turn the audiobook off. She’s very good at leading up to intense moments. I feel like The Paris Apartments could’ve been a lot shorter, a lot of the chapters were just fluff and extra story that we didn’t really need, but it was fun to know I guess. The ending….I did not see coming, you could kind of tell who the killer might be, but it wasn’t super clear why, which was fun to guess along with each chapter. But then ending and the why was pretty epic. Looking forward to reading more of Lucy Foley’s books!
