Upon further reflection, the ending was kind of a let-down. Guess it's just my crave-for-dramatic-flair talking but still. Chemistry between the characters were questionable too.

Pretty run-of-the-mill sorta-tragic YA. Nothing to write home about, but not terrible. If you took a shot every time Rufus said "mad" you'd be dead in a ditch.

Even though the last sentence broke my heart, the ending was pretty anticlimactic and rushed. The love between the main characters, Mateo and Rufus, was forced, but it makes sense with the book's theme. Also, the author gives beautiful analogies but ruins them by explaining what it means in another sentence. At some point, Rufus pointed out the most simple and obvious analogy, and the author tried to cover it up by mentioning that Rufus does not care if we, readers, find more meaning in it. The author should have more faith in his readers.
Overall, great book!
