This was a really nice surprise, a quick read and I loved the concept. Some of the dialogue could have been improved and sometimes took me out of the story. Character development is a tricky one to answer, I feel like Rufus’ character and story was a bit disjointed but overall, a good book to get me back into reading I think.

A great concept, with great emotions behind it, occaaaaaasionally let down by the writing. Some of the dialogue took me out and at no point during the day did it seem like Rufus could be capable of the violence that introduced him to us at the start of the book, but overall I had a good time.

ok so i know this book has been getting labled as “overhyped” lately.. and rhats possibly true.. but i am so attatched to this book because i got it for christmas, read it in like 12 hrs and helped get me baxk into reading

i LOVE rufus and mateo sm they will always hold a special place in my heart but i especially love rufus so so much

this book also had lovely representation
-mlm main couple + mateo is (implied) ace
-main characters are both latino
-multiple poc side characters

it also touches on serious subjects like
-drug use
-child abuse
-the downside of the fostercare & adoption system
-mental health

and the fact that rufus and mateo were able to fall so in love with ewch other in less than 24 hrs makes me believe in love again, and rufus’s reaction to mateos death proves it wasnt just a silly little romance caused by the fact they were only gonna be alive for a while longer, it shows that rufus truly loved mateo, mateos instant regret after turning ln the stove always hits me when i read that part, it always makes my stomach drop

cried for a good idk 15 minutes after reading it, and have cried multiple times thinking abt it or re reading it after my first read

overall, this book probably isnt for everyone and i can geniunely see why some people dislike it, i personalky love silveras writing style though. i reccomend trying it just to see.. it definitely didn’t disappoint me
