Ok, this book was amazing! We met Hunter in book 3 of the Lux series and he and his brothers and Serena makes sporadic appearances throughout the Lux and Origin series, so it was great to understand their story. It was not just a love story, but also a learning experience on who/what the Arum are, how they grew up and their version of the Lux/Arum hatred. It was well written and even though it is outside of YA, it was enjoyable.

I actually think this book deserves a spin-off series because I really enjoyed Hunter/Serena as well as I think there is still more for us to learn.

I love the idea that we looked at the world through Arum's eyes. That's why I like this book so much. I also like Serena way better than Katy. And I'm really disappointed that there won't be another book with Hunter in it.

*For those who are unsure and because I have been asked numerous times about it, this is NOT a YA book. It IS set within the same "world" as the Lux series BUT these characters are adults who think and act like adults - just so you know.

I am a sucker for background stories and this was like a mini history lesson for the Lux series. Not only do I view the Luxen differently now, but I neverevereverever expected to like the tall, dark and shadowy Hunter. He has a potty mouth like nobody's business but he cracked me up! (He would have to curb that if he came to visit, but still.) He thinks he has this job in the bag but Hunter gets more than he bargained for with Serena. She's strong, loyal, feisty and has an aim that would give the best MLB pitcher arm envy.

Unsure of who can really be trusted, Hunter and Serena have no choice but to depend on each other. The longer they're together though the more dangerous the situation becomes and the harder their attraction is to deny. (insert super steamy parts) Hunter will be forced to choose between keeping his kind off the radar, protecting his heart and Serena safe, that's if he can keep from killing her himself.

Who is truly evil? Luxen or Arum? I thought I knew until now. Now the only thing I'm sure of is nothing. I think in reality, all aliens are evil but when they fall in love with a human, it's hot stuff.

Obsession is a standalone titles that takes place in the Lux and Origin universe and timeline wise it happens during the events of the Lux series. If you’ve read the Lux series you will be familiar with some of the characters in this book who you meet briefly in that series. I am just so glad that Hunter and Serena got their own story. As soon as I met them in the Lux series I was curious to learn more about this couple. I just had so much fun reading this story. It was just such an amazing story that just captivated me. I just didn’t want it to end and after turning the last page I wished the author had written another book for them. I can’t wait to see what’s next from this author.

I really hate the cover of this book. But besides that, I absolutely loved this book, enjoyed 99% of it, and I laughed so hard! There were some moments that I just didn't like, so I didn't rate it 5 stars. Now, let's continue reading about Daemon and Katy

The Arum are the natural enemy of the Luxen- one of the "bad guys" in the Lux series- so to read a book where an Arum is one of the main characters was extremely interesting.

Obsession tells the story of a human woman who finds herself mixed up in the world of aliens and under the protection of someone potentially more dangerous than the ones she's hiding from.

From the amount of times I've read this book, I may have a slight 'obsession' of my own with Hunter. I think I just like being able to jump into the Lux world for a bit and see it from a different perspective than the one I'm used to.

Amo a Luc. Él se hace el frío pero yo sé que tiene amor en ese pequeño corazoncito. Paris lo amo desde siempre. Nada cambiará eso. Y Daemon...

¿A quién voy a engañar? Amo a Daemon.

So, is there anything that Jennifer L. Armentrout (J. Lynn) writes that I won't like? I don't think so. So of course this is no exception. Of course, going into it I thought for sure I would be unhappy. After all, I don't like the Arum. I don't want to like the Arum. They are the bad guys. The ones after Daemon and Kat. The ones making their lives a mess. Right?

Blurb from Goodreads:
He’s arrogant, domineering, and... To. Die. For.
Hunter is a ruthless killer. And the Department of Defense has him firmly in their grasp, which usually doesn’t chafe too badly because he gets to kill bad guys. Most of the time he enjoys his job. That is, until he’s saddled with something he’s never had to do before: protect a human from his mortal enemy.
Serena Cross didn’t believe her best friend when she claimed to have seen the son of a powerful senator turn into something... unnatural. Who would? But then she witnesses her friend’s murder at the hands of what can only be an alien, thrusting her into a world that will kill to protect their secret.
Hunter stirs Serena’s temper and her lust despite their differences. Soon he’s doing the unthinkable—breaking the rules he’s lived by, going against the government to keep Serena safe. But are the aliens and the government the biggest threats to Serena’s life… or is it Hunter?

So what to say about a JLA cover. This one is amazing. Sexy man, sexy woman...you know it's gonna be hot. And believe me, the cover pays off. I do have some qualms with the fact that they are portrayed as the same size. The book distinctly tells us that Serena is quite a bit shorter than Hunter, so it's odd that they stand even on the cover.

Is there a male main character that Jennifer writes that I don't like? Nope there's not. Hunter is no exception. He's so totally full of himself you want to smack him across his face. His arrogance flows right off the page and hits you full on. And yet, you watch him change during this book. Sure, the arrogance remains, but his flippant ways with humans also changes. He becomes more tolerant of them. And yet, I'm not sure that is the correct word, he tolerates humans but he certainly changes during the course of the novel and becomes more human himself. He's a bad boy, but his heart is good and he doesn't realize it until he meets Serena.
Serena, well, she's a spunky and full of energy. She knows who she is. She also knows that Hunter is an arrogant jerk who was sent to protect her. And, while she's annoyed by his arrogance, she still feels a pull towards him that she can't explain. But she knows it's wrong, because he's an alien, and who would be stupid enough to fall for one, right?
Their chemistry is totally undeniable during this book. You feel it pulsing off the page. It's hot and raw and full of tension.

And who can resist Jennifer's writing style? It's there as it is in all her books. Snarky remarks, funny moments, action through and through. Her writing is totally engrossing. She has not written a book that I have wanted to put down yet! Her style is unique and seeps off the page and right into your head. She's able to create characters that are realistic and true, and totally believable.

And the plot line is such a twist from the Lux you know. It moves you in behind the scenes of the bad guy and makes you love them, makes you want them to win! And you see a side of the Luxen that you thought you would never see, making you wonder exactly how this will affect what happens in Origin. And, while Jennifer says you don't need to read this in order for the series to be complete and you can read this as a stand alone if you don't know the Lux series, I love that I was able to make connections having read the series already. And I love that I will be able to see some of what is touched upon in this book in Origin. I think having been acquainted with this world, it gave me a better understanding of what was going on.

This book is a bit dark and quite seductive. What I loved most is that while there were many steamy moments, there was still a back story that was import and played out through the entire book. Lovers of JLA will not be disappointed!

5/5 Stars

After I finished chapter 1, I didn't want to put this book down. I loved the characters and the story line. It was interesting to see things from the Arum's perspective instead of through the Luxen. One thing I didn't like about this book was that it didn't state when it would change points of view, so it would always take me a little to figure out who's point of view I was reading from. Other than that, I thought this was very well written.
