Fun story, fairly light, despite the subject. Fairly predictable I thought. I kept laughing at the language - it was just so stereotypically 20s. I enjoyed it though.

The first Tuppence and Tommy book and a very early Christie, I think maybe her second to be published. T&T novels are spy “thrillers”-not much of a thriller by todays standards but I can imagine in a place that had suffered such horrific loss in The Great War it would have felt differently. Anyway, our heroes, childhood friends on their uppers after the war, decide to advertise for adventure and boy do they get it. A fun , though frankly not especially believable, story. I figured out the identity of the mysterious ringleader about a third of the way through. Also, I found the dated language and slang of the American Julius Hirscheimer to be annoying and distracting. Overall though, a good introduction to Tuppence and Tommy. They are Christie’s only characters who age in real time and I enjoy their company. I recommend the second story, N or M, very much.
