Beautiful book.
Thankfully not miserable at all like I had feared - weird and quirky and strange, but pretty enjoyable for a text that kids have to study. I’m going to enjoy picking this apart for lessons

Quite goood - on recommendation from Nick Hornby's Believer column to pick up some of the best among what The Kids are reading, or the Young Adults at any rate, aside from Rowling.
I liked how clearly we weren't going to be given tidy answers to his sort-of magical realism, but were also getting satisfying tradiional storytelling. Better and more thought-provoking than some of the YA crap we read in middle school, that's for sure.

Not what id expected
A good story, it really made you think. The only complaint I had was that the writing style felt very disjointed and it wasn't always clear who was speaking at times.

I'm forced to read this for class. I didn't really enjoy this book. Waaayyy to abstract for my tastes.
December 2022 update:
The children loved Skellig. They much preferred this than [b:Rooftoppers|17350491|Rooftoppers|Katherine Rundell|https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1362952099l/17350491._SY75_.jpg|24065797]. I had children convinced they knew what Skellig was. I enjoyed this book more when reading it with children than independently.
A book of hope and myths - 4*
I found this book difficult to read at times as it deals with a baby being ill and at points critically ill. However, hidden behind the mystical elements of this book, at its heart, this story is of hope and belief. This is what I'll take from this book.
I'm intrigued to teaching this next half-term.

William loved this book-- he called it "tender" and "gentle." He might give it 5 stars, and usually I agree with his taste.
I found it a little creepy, but I admit to beginning with a bias high on the creep factor.
Evolution was emphasized throughout the book.
