Enjoyed. Didn't feel preach-y about suicide as some can. Still had clear intentions for hopeful messaging.
Had a solid YA level sex scene, didn't shy away from giving a bit of description for realism. I didn't feel annoyed by teenagers getting in their own way for plot, felt like they were in their own way in a realistic way and for understandable reasons.

Read a day after watching Sometimes I Think About Dying... and both had enjoyably casual and realistic references to death/suicidal ideation from the protagonists. (For this book, still at a YA appropriate level, not graphic)

“There is no one so broken they are completely unsalvageable. There is no life so hopeless tomorrow can’t be at least a little better.”

i’m gonna be thinking about this one for a while. the first half i could tell i’d need to pace myself for the heartache, but by the second half i sped through bc i HAD to know what would happen. this author’s writing is so simple and yet poetic: they give voice to things i’ve often felt but haven’t had the words for. i’ve been lucky enough to get treatment for my comorbid conditions, but avery’s narration perfectly captures how clinical depression feels.

“‘Why is anyone depressed?’ Hell if I knew. It was in the soul of who I was as a person. It wasn’t something that had roots and therefore a way to weed it out.”

the flashbacks tracing avery and cass’s friendship from the ache of figuring out to the realization they’ve loved each other all along. avery’s relationship with aisha. TEDDY. the ways people grow more vicious or more loving when they realize they have nothing left to lose.

i’m glad i went into this knowing it would be an open ending, bc i was able to prepare myself for it. this isn’t the kind of story that’s about resolution, because mental health is never fully resolved. you just choose to keep trying.

I truly loved this book. It was very relatable on a few levels.

I got so sucked into the story of truly felt like there was an asteroid coming to earth for real. I did read this during the full eclipse tho . I loved Cass's character how free she was about who she was. I related heavily to the internal struggles of Avery. This book has me in tears from joy and sadness. I picked it up months ago, but something told me to read it right now and I'm so glad I did.  Beautiful.

Really good read. Harrowing look at depression that can be triggering at times, but I greatly enjoyed the family and friend dynamics in this book.

Mental health issues take a front seat in this apocalyptic YA/new adult novel. Big CW for suicidal thoughts, depression, and homophobia, though these themes are largely handled with care. Queer love at the end of the world with no shortage of angst.

The premise was compelling, as well as the web of relationships and how those changed over the character's lives. I appreciated that the author
left room in the ending rather than taking it right up to the last second.
I felt that a lot of the character developments were abrupt, and the timelines weren't as realistic or smooth as they could have been. I'm willing to chalk up at least part of that to the apocalyptic setting, but I still felt it could have been more elegant. Probably wouldn't read again, but I largely enjoyed it.
