Two stars in my book is a “would not recommend, except for one redeeming factor” which in this case is that Tyler really enjoys David Mitchell and perhaps I’m just not smart enough to.

The stories and threads here just didn’t come together nearly as I thought they would. And if I wasn’t in the middle of the woods with sketchy Wi-Fi and few other books, I’m not sure this escapes the DNF list.

The “ghostwritten” title theme does carry a lot of the weight here — which is clever and to be admired.

Ghostwritten is a good and entertaining book, but at times it is a bit monotonous and confusing. The book is a set of stories, each (mostly) about different people. But each story connects with at least one of the other stories, creating a web of interactions that I got a bit lost by. I feel like there was something profound here, and I just missed it. Still, at the very least, for someone dumb like me, this will mostly engage you throughout and, if you're smarter, maybe you'll find some mind-blowing things in there as well. If you do, let me know about them, because I'm pretty lost. Thank you!

A challenging read. Obtuse narratives. Much more a book of related short stories (which often have little narrative arc, are almost like vignettes of characters). But the author David Mitchell is truly remarkable in terms of his reach. A creator of scenes and feelings for the reader at a very high level.

Cannot be named 'Cloud Atlas in the bud' since it's already blooming.
