Exquisite poetry. Beautifully crafted language that should be marvelled at, enjoyed.

And sheds light on the root of so much of society's misogyny. For that, don't blame Milton - he replicated prejudice contained in the source material!

Though the afterword in this edition is horrible, I think having a better understanding of Milton and the historical and cultural reality surrounding the creation of these texts would be helpful in making them more intelligible.

paradise regained is the necessary conclusion to paradise lost , the worst mistake purified by the best of men, eternal happiness lost through disobedience and won back through sacrifice. it is less ornate, less expansive, less breathtaking and yet it loses none of its beauty in its simplicity; there is nothing to tell but christ's strength against satan's temptation, alone in the wilderness.

I'm reading this for the second time. An absolutely amazing poem and worth reading a second time for extra depth. Pretty heavy going, I think next time I would re-read just my favourite bits.
