Really slow start. I really enjoyed the last 3rd or so, but more for Pratchett’s clever wordplay than the actual plot.

Book seven in the Discworld Series is wonderfully surprising. This book introduces the Guild of Assassins in more depth and combined with ancient Kings and Queens and Pyramids, fiscally & physics-ly sound architects proves to be a funny and manic story.

As always, one liners and impromptu gags are aplenty as per Pratchett. As this is a stand alone book it has helped refresh the series for me while remaining familiar enough to be thoroughly enjoyed.

A few favourite quotes:

-"There was not a lot that could be done to make Morpork a worse place. A direct hit by a meteorite, for example, would count as gentrification."

- “You're a criminal?” said Teppic.
“Well, criminal’s a dirty word, know what I mean?” said the little ancestor. “I'd prefer entrepreneur. I was ahead of my time, that’s my trouble.”

-"No one is more worried by the actual physical manifestation of a god than his priests; it’s like having the auditors in unexpectedly."

I picked this book up because I needed something to cleanse my brain after reading [b:Mockingjay|7260188|Mockingjay (Hunger Games, #3)|Suzanne Collins|http://photo.goodreads.com/books/1282388315s/7260188.jpg|8812783] and I wanted something funny. Of course this would end up being a more serious book than is Pratchett's norm. It took on religion and gods and belief and belief systems. There were some really good thinking points and thankfully a couple funny points too. A decent read.

Although the story was still very good, I felt a bit less connected to the characters. Nevertheless, this book does flesh out the Discworld more and introduces my favourite place on it, Ephebe!
