HOLY MOLY! So many emotions with this book.
Iron Flame is the second installment in The Empyrean series, following Violet and Xaden as they navigate war, love, and power. I enjoyed seeing more of Violet's squad mates and their growing bonds and faith in one another. I LOVED Tarin and Andarna, as usual, and some answers about the story.
What I loved:
1. Tairn and Andarna's snarkiness

Well that was excellent. Something so addictive about the school + mystery + dragons + standard young adult issues mixed together. Loved the end for being an interesting cliffhanger, not just another “will they die” scenario. Really loved the intro of a new place and the Gryphons to make it feel very new and fresh from the first book. Finally: duh Violet, it was six and the one, that had to mean something.

The story itself is a fun ride but god it feels like Yarros gets paid by the word. Multiple long chapters dedicated to nothing at all, or beating a dead horse. But when the story does progress, I’m invested.
