The torture scenes were very gripping and the complexities of the war are interesting but otherwise a lot of this book dragged, that said its not hard to read at least. I do feel violet is becoming less annoying which is nice.

Holy. Shit. I cannot believe what I just read. This book made me feel such a myriad of emotions and I haven’t felt this way about any series, book or characters in many, many years. Not since I was in high school, at least. But damn did Rebecca Yarros find that inner child in me and yank it out with such an adventurous, romantic and emotional story. Wow.
Giving it a 4.75 because I felt that it could have benefited from some brevity in the middle of the novel.

I was really looking forward to this after loving Fourth Wing but I have to say... I'm a little disappointed.
The first half felt really slow and that it focused on things that felt less important and glossed over more vital things. It felt quite repetitive and I struggled through the first half then it picked up the pace a lot but I just felt kind of lost.
I did enjoy it towards the end and found it gripping but felt that the book as a whole was missing a lot of what made the first book so great.
I still enjoyed it, I just think it could have done with being a few hundred pages less.
