I have to give some props to Rutger for the original premise and the excellent pacing, but man, this is definitely a book by a screenwriter. It reads like an action/horror film, one that I may even watch. But the prose has a tendency to get clunky, and some of the dialogue drags on. It's a fun beach read and it's very engrossing, but quality literature it is not. Also, I think I was a little bummed that I wasn't as scared as I wanted to be.

This book was fairly intense and established a creepy, claustrophobic mood pretty well. I read it quickly because it's a page-turner, but it is "easy reading."
The characters are likeable and relatively well-developed. The plot was well-paced. The premise was pretty out there though. I was expecting that, and it didn't diminish my enjoyment of the book. I just can't think about it too hard.

Much like the jacket says, it’s “Indiana Jones meets the X-Files,” but I’d say the book leans for more heavily on the latter. Essentially, there is some eerie, spooky, pretty cool stuff going on in a massive cave found high up on a wall of the Grand Canyon. There are also some insights into actual seemingly otherworldly phenomena that are not oft talked about, and I enjoyed looking those up as the narrator described them. At times, creepy in a really great way. Not for the claustrophobic of heart. Thoroughly enjoyed for the most part.
I actually liked this way more than I thought I would. The beginning was slow but once they arrived at their destination it picked up. It was suspenseful and also kept me guessing.
I enjoyed doing a share read with my friend, Lindsay. This creepy BOTM selection started slow, but soon projected into a full on adrenaline rush with twists and turns around every dark cavern corner. I don’t think I would call this science fiction or fantasy, but it was unusual to say the least. Anomaly is about a team from the YouTube webcast venture to an uncharted area of the Grand Canyon to investigate a cavern reported by a group of explorers 100 years before. Without giving away the suspenseful plot, I will say, take a risk and pick this one up, it will not disappoint!
I struggled through the first 100 pages of this book for WEEKS on end and almost completely abandoned this book a few times, which is surprising since it boasts to be an adventure novel that is a mix of Indiana Jones and The X-Files which sounded awesome, so I kept trying. I was also PRAYING it didn’t go the way of aliens, which was mentioned on page 139 and almost had me quit the book yet again, but nevertheless she persisted. I am just appalled it took until page 200 to actually get good… and then it just got CRAZY! Overall, proud of myself for not DNFing this book.
Tough to dig into the plot of this one without giving anything important away. I can say these things without fear of spoilers:
The characters were well developed, which is a must for me. The mystery was compelling, and the character/reader understanding of the situation continued to take interesting turns. Just as important for this kind of book, the McGuffin at the heart of the adventure holds up to expectations as the novel's final payoff is revealed. The book is fast-paced, interesting, thought-provoking, and leaves you wondering, what if...
