Fast paced and thrilling! Liked the reveal at the end, and the Grand Canyon was an interesting setting.
This was a really fun little archaeological horror story. Good pacing and kept me invested the whole time and I thought the main character was really likable as well. Oftentimes with books that have male archaeologist main characters I feel like they either have no personality at all or are just jerks but I thought Nolan was a good mix of smart and also down to earth. Definitely gonna check out the next one.
This was a very entertaining, heart-pounding thriller! It took awhile to get going, and I didn't really care for most of the characters at first, but it started getting good around 1/3 of the way through and I grew way more attached to the characters than I expected!!
There were definitely a few "oh shit!" moments that had me totally sucked in, but overall I don't feel like I connected w/ this book as much as I would've liked. I think part of it is my inability to suspend my disbelief. It's a super interesting set-up with some really cool visuals, but the explanation of what was happening didn't really jive with me as much as I wanted.
Overall though, I thought it was really good! Definitely worth the read.

You cannot write in cliche or copy from other stories, then say that is what you're doing, then expect that to be okay. It's lazy.

This was my pick from Book of the Month, and I wanted to branch out and pick a genre I don't normally read.
I'll get straight to the issues I had. With the author being a screenwriter as a profession, it was disappointing to see a couple missing words, "archaeologist" being misspelled as "archeologist", "mike" being misused in place of "mic". Surely, there must have been a second set of eyes to catch these easy errors, but yet, here they are.
Some the character development also felt a bit hollow to me. The storyline, a bit rushed. But you know what? I binge read this book in one sitting. I found it to be an easy read. Whether that's a good or a bad thing, I'm not sure.
What I do know is that I'm still giving this an easy 4 stars because the characters are still enjoyable, the ambiance is enjoyable, and it's one of those books you can picture becoming a movie. I would also read the sequel without hesitation if he were to write one (please, let there be a sequel!)
If you chose this for your BOTM pick, I truly don't think you'll be disappointed. This book will definitely take you on an adventure.
