The Lies We Leave Behind by Noelle Salazar
The first part of this story could have been a book in itself, all that followed just made it better.
This is a dual timeline and normally I don't like dual timelines. But this was totally different. This was mainly about Kate, a flight nurse during ww2, and the current timeline was few and far between. I never felt as if I were being torn away from Kate to have to sit through some less interesting story.

Kate is a flight nurse, facing much of the horrors first in the Pacific theater of WWII, then in England. When Kate meets William, she wants to tell him the truth of her background, but as their relationship grows, she holds back. Separated by the war, William remains hopeful but when he doesn’t hear from Kate, he assumes she is dead. Kate’s journey, however, was just beginning, ending in much sadness. I really liked the book but the one part that was a bit far fetched was Kate’s trip back to Germany in the middle of the war. I still would recommend this book to historical fiction fans. Thanks to NetGalley for the ARC.

Thank you to NetGalley and Harlequin Trade Publishing for the eARC.
I sat down two nights ago to make a TBR list for the next few weeks, intending to start with a different book, and the next thing I knew, I was 80 pages into The Lies We Leave Behind. This book follows the story of a flight nurse, Kate, through her experiences during WWII. This heartbreaking but hopeful tale sucked me in from the very first chapter. While the last few chapters seemed a little rushed, I thought the overall pacing of the story and the plot was well thought out. I read the book very quickly and it never felt slow. The dual timeline worked well with the story and never seemed confusing.
I have read many WWII historical fiction books and this one has been one of my favorites. If you are a fan of WWII historical fiction, love stories, and books that make you cry, I highly recommend The Lies We Leave Behind.
