This volume was the most heartbreaking and hopeful volume yet. It had me cheering out loud and crying within just a few chapters. With Seiichi's mom confessing and out of the picture, he is able to find some hope when he is told that he is not his mother. Without here there he can start to understand what that means. This glimmer of hope was just what this series needed after dwelling in despair and manipulation so long. There was also a chapter showing the beginning of Seiichi's trauma, in which his mother tries to kill him as a preschooler. This part tore my heart out and also clarified why the dead cat kept recurring as a theme. I was shocked by the final stretch of this volume. The police making Seiichi go back and watch as actors play out the attempted murder of his cousin feels a whole lot of insensitive. This volume overall feels like a culmination of the story, a sort of climax of everything that has been built up. Just so outstanding.
