Easily one of the best books in the Dresden Files series

Series lasting this long have the unfortunate side effect of stale characters and bland storytelling. Jim Butcher fights against this by making this story one of the grittiest of the Dresden novels to date. It really does change the tone and tenor of not only Dresden but also the story arc. Motions get set into action and secrets start to surface that make you, the reader, think "oh, this won't end well". But Butcher doesn't go off the deep end (mostly) into the roll-your-eyes style of bored writing. So good job all around.

I know I’m half a dozen books behind and about a decade late, but, respectfully, what the fuck.

This was a super read! I was on pins and needles through the entire book. I cant believe how it ended. OMG when is the next one. I will be stalking Butcher until it comes out. Awesome.

BTW.. Mouse needs his own story. LOL.

So I started out HATING this book. its got one of the worst fucking premises for a fucking Dresden Files book. Turns out, Harry has a secret kid no one knew about and through out the whole book he's constantly going at a fucking 10 and making the stupidest decessions because its his little girl and he'll do aanything. Even though he literally just found out about her. The daughter is just an object so Hary can suddenly have some dad rage. I am like 90% sure the author saw Taken and was obsessed with it.

Now the annoying part is this book pulls things around a lot by the end. Like a lot. So many plot threads, so many hanging details, so much of waht's been set up by previous books sees not only a lot of fanservice, but actual big decisions for Harry and his gang. This is probably the most significant Dresden files book there is, drastically altering the whole course of the world in so many different ways its tough to see where the series goes from here. That said, in a lot of ways its a big return to form in a lot of its worst attributes. Bad women characters galore, vaguel racist, and I can't stress how fucking annoying Harry is through out the whole book. If you're real into Taken and Dad rage, this is probably a 10/10.

Another fantastic Dresden file! The ending though... So glad I can pick up the next immediately!
