This book. THIS BOOK. Wow. I started this series because my fiancé is a huge fan of this series and I always wanted to see what the big fuss was about. From the very beginning Susan was always my favorite character. So head strong, independent, and fearless. Changes was so beautifully written. I cried so hard with it’s ending. My only beef with the book was literally the last three pages between Murphy and Harry. I felt with all the sacrifice that was made in this book and how emotional it makes the reader feel, I feel that part of the book ruined it all. In my opinion it ruined everything this book was about. Not sure if I will continue with the series but I can acknowledge that Changes is the best book in the series so far.

I really did not like this book.  So much so that I'm considering DNFing the rest of the series.  I had so many issues (all of which are spoilers because it is book 12) but also I was very bored through a lot of it.  I don't see this going anywhere that I would find interersting.

Best one yet.

Holy cow! Best Dresden Files story so far. Such incredible multidimensional characters and a gripping, action packed, gut wrenching story. Can't wait to see what's next.

I'm currently doing a re-listen of the Audible audio books of the entire series. This is my favorite story of the series thus far. So intense. It's a story where Harry and company all have to decide who they really are, what they value, and do whatever it takes to stay true to those core values. It's a story about having to work with the options available to you to get important things done even when none of your options are an ideal choice. All of that in a well written story to boot. This is Jim Butcher at his best.

12 books into this series and I still don't see the sexism displayed by Harry Dresden. What is so wrong about a guy that wants to treat women a little nicer than he would treat men? Not once does Harry belittle a woman or a child, or someone for being of a different race, religion, or lifestyle preference. Harry belittles characters for being inept. Sexism works both ways and there are female characters that prey on Harry expecting that he will allow his sex organ think for him, granted, it is a challenge, but in the end, Harry does not give in and those "women" have no power over him. Think Bianca, think Lara. These female characters believe that their sex can overpower a man, that is sexist. There is a strong theme amongst this series and that is that using sex to manipulation a situation does not win.

5 F'ING STARS. I kept hearing this was the best book in the series and completely agree whole heartedly. When I wasn't reading it, I kept thinking about it. And I have absolutely no clue where this series is going now, but I can't wait to find out.

3.5 rounded up

The plot is the most complex it’s been yet, with numerous moving parts that come together nicely. The stakes, of course, revolve around a damsel in distress again. And mostly the women get to pay the price for any conflict, so while it’s a shake-up for Dresden and the world, and it’s more “fair” as to how much Dresden has to endure to resolve the situation, I still prefer the boys’ club in Dead Beat to this. This ties the knot on a bunch of stuff that was hanging around and does make it seem more interesting for future developments.
