This is such a difficult book to review as it’s riddled with spoilers.

Especially when Suzan revealed (Spoiler) and then Harry (Spoiler spoiler) not to mention what happened with (Spoiler) at (Spoiler). See?? I cant.

What I can say is that we see Harry using some interesting new spells and not just the usual Forzareor Fuego. I particularly enjoyed meeting the Goblin King (even if his presence was contained in only a few pages) as well as the reappearance of Ebenezer. Some of the puzzle pieces from the bigger overarching story also clicked into place making this a very satisfying read.

Of course there is, as always, some bloodthirsty beasts and epic fighting. And although I am no fan of fight scenes, listening to it instead of reading made for a much more pleasant experience.

I really enjoyed this audio and the last three hours had me frozen like a statue in mid-something-or-another unable to do anything but listen. Get ready for a jaw-dropping ending.

Harry I will be seeing you again very soon!

PS: If you have always wondered about urban fantasy you wont go wrong with The Dresden series.

I need some time to recover from that before I write anything. Changes was an appropriate title.

Whoa. And wow. And damn you, Jim Butcher, now I have to read the next one! :-)

I realize that my view is not popular, but after Turncoat which I thought was the best book in the series, Changes was a major letdown and dull in spite of the action. There is just so much I did not like about this book. For me, Dresden files actually hit its stride as a series when they got rid of Susan. Jim Butcher does a lousy job writing female human characters and Susan was the blandest/least rational of the bunch. Her mere presents with child in tow (a lazy plot device if ever there was one) managed to bring out the worst of the Harry Dresden guilt, self flagellation and martyrdom show. I get that the author's goal was to change the direction of the series. It remains to be seen whether the series will recover from these changes.

Definitely the most intense of the dresden files so far. I didn't like how low Harry had to sink to accomplish his goal.

As is my drug of choice, I listened to the narrations of James Marsters. He has become the voice of these characters and I could not imagine Harry without him. Oh, where to begin. Let me just get this off my chest before I burst...we hear Mouse speak. It was brilliant! Perfection. I laughed so hard I had tears and we were in the middle of some intense shite when it happened.
You might remember I am not a big Susan fan. Well, in Changes I decided I hate her. Strong words I know, but she reveals a secret to Harry that floored me and might just get Harry killed. Arianna Ortega, Duchess of the Red Court will use that secret against Harry. You'll need to buckle up and bring supplies before beginning Changes because once you begin you won't be able to put it down.
I laughed, screamed, got angry, cheered and was left in a fetal position by the time all was said and done. If I haven't convinced you to pick up this series by now, all hope is lost. Changes is a pivotal novel and I am anxious to see what Side Jobs, (#12.5) brings. This review was originally posted at Caffeinated Reviewer

I haven't been this angry at the ending of a book in a long long while.

I enjoyed the hell out of this book. I got into the Dresden Files books a little late and read them all in fairly short order - up until Changes. It wasn't out yet and even when it came out I didn't get to it for a bit.

The action is a bit over the top, but this is a fun, fast read. I had to read the last couple of pages a couple times, but I'm thinking it meant there is a sequel or more on the way. If not? It went out in a big way.

PS - these are books you really need to read in order to get the full story and depth to appreciate.

2019 - I've been listening to these on Audiobook. This one is still amazing.
