Jim Butcher has done it again, this book encapsulated my attention so fiercely! Harry can’t go a while adventure without his friends at this point and the amazing multitude of people around him. I had goosebumps through a good majority of this book.
That cliffhanger though??! Diabolical.
That cliffhanger though??! Diabolical.
The title is pretty dang accurate at summing up this book - without giving too much away in terms of detail: we have changes in Harry's personal life (the very first sentence lets us and Harry know that he has a previously unknown daughter), his life circumstances and those of some that are close to him, and the overall political power structure of the supernatural world. Excellent book with a real cliffhanger ending, and now that I'm actually caught up to the current book, I have to wait until next year to find out what happens - and I don' wanna hafta wait!
What the... what?!!!!!??!!!! Immediately downloading the next book.
A highlight for the series so far. There were so many epic moments and big changes. I like how the story is told with a more introspective voice, rather than a dry play by play.
Amazing!
Also, really wish Mouse was real. I need a Mouse in my life.....
But truly, this was a great installment. I loved the last one and was slightly concerned this would let me down a little. It did not! Really interested in where we go next. There are certainly A LOT of changes that happened in this that leave wondering what's next for Harry and the Gang.

Review from 2010: I was beginning to lose my interest in the Dresden books, but this one lives up to the breaking-the-pattern title and caught me up the story.
All the Dresden virtues of humor, fast-paced action, great supporting characers, and emotional impact are here in way that felt familiar but not stale.
And yes, there were changes. Lots of them. The board is completely re-set.
It felt good.
